Sr. Designer Manager

Description
Seeking a Senior Design Manager to architect designs for all projects and leverage analytical design approaches through various internal and external teams. We are seeking a candidate that can proactively drive excellence in design throughout our products and work effectively with stakeholders and teams to communicate, implement, and polish these designs in shipping products.
Design specialties may include, but are not limited to: Online Design, Multiplayer Design, Controller Design, AI Design/Scripting, Design tools/pipeline, UI/HUD Design, Human Factors Engineering, Level Design, Systems Design, Play Balancing, Sandbox Design, Interactive Story Design, and Design Production Methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Organize game design scaffolding for each title on slate
- Organize ideas and features into game design calculus
- Effectively champion excellence in design specialty to internal and external stakeholders
- Creatively solve problems related to design specialties for a wide variety of genres, titles, and resource budgets
- Work directly with product teams to improve design in specified areas, while balancing resource, schedule, and quality needs
- Writing concise, readable design documents that clearly communicate both design intent and design details
- Effectively communicate design solutions through a variety of means, from informal one-on-ones to detailed design documents.
- Work effectively with other disciplines to implement design solutions
- Integrate easily into a variety of team structures and styles
- Provide expert design critique and analysis for specified area of design
- Effectively communicate design critiques to product teams
- Coach, mentor, and train studio designers/producers in area of specialties through written documents, one-on-one meetings, or large group presentations
- Drive design thought leadership in specific area of design
- Conduct design research and present findings in area of specialty
- Write white papers regarding design specialties
- Assist in recruiting additional design specialists as needed
- Educate and liaise with Global Brand Management, Public Relations, and other internal groups regarding design implementations
- Assist in evaluating developers or new intellectual property concepts based on design specialty
Qualifications
- College Degree from highly regarded/accredited institution, or Respectable body of professional work/experience.
- Strong, successfully demonstrated expertise in one or more design specialties
- Strong understanding/philosophy of game design.
- Strong understanding of the realities of production from an art, tech, and design standpoint
- Demonstrated ability to make compromises while maintaining design integrity
- Innovative creative problem solving
- Demonstrated ability to work at many levels, from high level concepts to detailed design balancing
- Outstanding communication skills, good writing skills
- Desire to affect change on many projects while owning none
- An avid game player
- As this position requires working closely with developers, travel will be required
