AN EXTREME MAKEOVER! - May 2007

At nine years old, James Westbrook was forced to adjust to life in a wheelchair after a car accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. To make matters worse, the incident occurred on the heels of his father being paralyzed from a mortar attack in Baghdad, Iraq.

Wanting to ensure that James and his family could adapt to their changing lives, ABC-TV and its top-rated show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" decided to transform the Westbrook family home in Lawton, Oklahoma into a place in which the family could continue to grow, including having the new home be wheelchair-accessible for two members of their family.

When designers on the show met with James to determine in what he was most interested, they quickly discovered his passion for video game design. The show's host, Ty Pennington, decided that James deserved the ultimate video game-themed room.

But where does one go to find the best and brightest in the video games industry? Digital Artist Management! Because of DAM's unique position in the market with ties at both top video game and Hollywood companies, ABC counted on it to get the word out about this very special project for James. After talking to various contacts across the industry, DAM brought several major game companies to the table to vie for the chance to secure this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The winning team at Insomniac Games heeded the call and went above and beyond to show support for the family. The developers designed a digital version of James and inserted him as a playable into their upcoming PS3 game, "Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction." Members of the Insomniac team also took time out to fly down and help build a dream gamer bedroom complete with consoles, games, and a huge painting of James' character on the wall.

"When we were first contacted by ABC, we understood the urgency of the situation and immediately tapped into our extensive database of top interactive entertainment companies that we knew could help the Westbrooks," said Andy Cheren, senior partner at DAM. "All of us at DAM want to thank Insomniac Games for its tremendous generosity. We were grateful for the opportunity to be a part of helping make James' life a little bit brighter."
